لمحة عامة

Bosphorus

named in the Greek heritage Passage of the Cow,  according to an old mythical story says that the god Zeus has turned  his beloved Aibo into the shape of a cow for fear of jealousy of his wife but  when she knew about them she  cast a curse on her by letting the flies flew over her head , so  Aibo ran away and crossed the passageway so it was called Bosphorus, and the two words Bose means the cow and Horus means the strait and the two wirds combine to form one word  Bosphorus.

The history of the strait dates back thousands of years, where a cracking of land occurred in the fourth geological era and the strait took shape about 7,500 years ago.

The first bridge on the strait was in the fourth century and was made of wooden boats bound together by chains.

The strait is characterized by Byzantine castles and palaces as well as Ottoman fortresses and castles.

The Bosporus Strait is a water channel that runs between the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea. It is about 30 km long and is between 550m to 3,000m. It separates the European continent and the Asian continent.

It has two main anchors, the Golden Horn and Haydar Pasha Harbor.

One of the most important bridges on the strait is the Bosphorus bridge, which was later known as the July 15 Martyrs' Bridge, the Mohammed Al Fateh Bridge, the Yahooz Salim Bridge, as well as two tunnels under the Straits of Marmara and Eurasia, all of which reach the Asian section of Istanbul with its European section.

Castle of Romilly Hisar

One of the most important landmarks of the historic city of Istanbul in the European section of the Sarière region . It was built during the era of Sultan Mohamed El Fateh as a base for the conquest of Constantinople. It took only about four months to build in 1452 AD The castle was built in the narrowest point between the two parts of Bosphorus, in front of the Anadul Castle to cut the black sea channel from Byzantium and control of the Bosphorus.

It is said that the Byzantine emperor sent a delegation to the Sultan Mohammed al-Fateh to dissuade him from building the citadel in return for financial commitments he had offered . However, the Sultan insisted on building and when he saw the insistence of the Emperor's delegation on the demolition of the castle, he said :

The places where the power that I have come from do not reach the hopes of your emperor. I will allow you to return this time, but if there are repeated delegations, I will cut the skin of its members alive.

Sultan Mohammed Al-Fateh supervised the construction work and used about 300 skilled workers, 800 workers and 200 porter, along with a large number of boats, vehicles and other types of workers.

The timber used to build the fort was brought from Izmit and the Black Sea while the stones were brought from Anatolia and abandoned houses surrounding.

The tower covers an area of 121,405 square meters and consists of three towers and three corners, the tower next to the sea built by Khalil Pasha, and the tower overlooking the village of Hessar built Saruga Pasha or the tower overlooking the district of Bebek built by Zaganos Mohammed Pasha. The towers were named after the pashas that oversaw the construction and the height of its walls is 82 meters

It was later converted into a museum in 1968
